India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy and is on path to become the world’s third-largest economy by the end of this decade, third only to the US and China. Since 2014, India has finalized eight FTAs, including agreements with Mauritius (implemented April 2021), Australia (December 2022), the UAE (May 2022), Oman (signed December 2025), the UK (signed July 2025), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) — comprising Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway — (implemented October 2025), New Zealand (talks concluded December 2025), and the European Union, a 27-nation bloc.
India has also begun talks with the Mercosur grouping to expand the existing preferential trade agreement (PTA). Mercosur members include Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
India and Canada will also aim to conclude a free trade pact by the end of this year, as the two countries seek to boost economic ties after two years of a strained relationship.
